Taylor Nelms sees Filene’s research team as the perfect fuel for his passion to understand people and culture. He is dedicated to building a groundbreaking research agenda whose impact he can translate for consumer finance professionals, policymakers, and the public. Nelms previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher at University of California, Irvine, where he also received his PhD in anthropology. As a Gates-Cambridge Scholar, Nelms spent time in Ecuador conducting ethnographic fieldwork on the so-called solidarity economy with urban market vendors and family and neighborhood savings groups. Nelms is excited to put the collaborative and cooperative principles of the credit union movement into practice at Filene. He serves as co-editor in chief of the Journal of Cultural Economy.
