“I’ve been in the movement for 30 years, but I wasn’t trained to scale nationally and neither were most of our boards.” That quote came up from a fellow peer of ours and stuck with us, because it gets to the heart of what many credit unions are facing right now. Growth is necessary, often essentia,l but too often boards default to safe plays, leaders stay in their lanes, and bold decisions are stalled by hesitation or outdated structures. Most boards were built to protect, not propel.
