Maria Martinez is president/CEO of Border Federal Credit Union, a CDFI in Del Rio, Texas, with more than $200 million in assets and 25,000 members. She serves on the CUNA board and is founding member and vice chair of the Credit Union Women’s Leadership Alliance, as well as founding member and chair of the National Association of Latino Credit Unions & Professionals. She also serves on the CU DEI Collective, and CUNA’s CU Awareness LLC and CUNA Strategic Services boards. Martinez is a Credit Union Development Educator whose recognition includes the 2017 Herb Wegner Memorial Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement, the 2015 Woman of Distinction Award by the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce, and Cornerstone’s 2016 Professional of the Year.
