Rejuvenating Your Why

Often, we don’t understand the significance of adversity. While we talk about the impact of adversity and the lessons we can learn, we seldom talk about the residue of adversity. Unaddressed, this residue shows up in workplaces as an inability to connect or reconnect to why we do what we do. As a result, our teams and leaders may struggle to take ownership of their roles or feel stifled, unable to find fulfillment and meaning. This leads to organizational problems like low morale, high turnover, escalating burnout and sick days, and poor team cohesion. Jovan Glasgow has a system for helping people address the residue of adversity and rejuvenate their “why” so they can bring their whole selves to work.

What you’ll learn:

  • The four gifts in adversity that can catapult you into massive action.
  • How to decipher the difference between your why and your what.
  • The three Es to rejuvenate your desire.
  • A daily discipline to remain connected to your why.
  • The secret to going from curious to committed.

Retirement Experience Activity
During this session, Courtney and Cynthia will take you on a journey to help you think about what kind of retirement you want to have, and start building the blocks to get there. The Retirement Experience will help you prepare and feel more comfortable about planning for your retirement. Using common scenarios for those in different stages of life (20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s), you’ll explore the financial situation of a fictional (but very real) person or couple, dive into an empathy map on that scenario, and as a group, find ways to help your “person” get to a more comfortable retirement. Then, you can apply what you have discovered to your own situation.

Dare to Compare
Teddy Roosevelt once said, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” Every day, successful leaders rob themselves of simple and profound joys because some part of them feels like they don’t measure up to the competition, their peers, idols, or even online personalities. Yet, the human brain is wired to compare. Of course, comparisons can also fuel motivation and determination and be a powerful tool for influential communication. The key is being mindful so comparisons can be drivers, not discouragers. In this session, communication coach and message strategist Sharí Alexander teaches you activities and frameworks for comparisons that foster creativity and bring back the joys of personal and professional improvement.

More Than a Feeling: The Power of Emotional Intelligence

You’ve heard about Emotional Intelligence for a while, but who knows what that means? Have you ever worked to improve your EI? Where do you even start? In this session, you’ll gain a practical definition of EI and its core components. (Hint: It’s about much more than “being polite” and “keeping it together” at work.) Then, we’ll discuss practical ways to improve the four areas of EI so you can interact with your team effectively and discover more meaningful relationships, higher productivity, and greater team retention.

In this session, you will:

•    Discover the connection between thoughts and feelings and how both impact your behavior and leadership.
•    Create more positive relationships at work through better communication, which leads to more significant influence.
•    Increase your effectiveness in handling stressful situations as a leader, peer, and team member.
